Referrals and Fees

The following schemes provide either free or subsidised counselling sessions:

Medicare rebates are available for clients referred and managed by a GP under a GP Mental Health Care Plan or for those on a direct referral from a psychiatrist or paediatrician (for treatment of a child). Please asked the medical receptionist for an extended consultation when booking with your GP to access a psychology referral as the paperwork can take extra time. A limit of 12 individual sessions per person per calendar year applies with a review by the referring doctor required after the first 6 sessions. This is applicable for a range of mental health conditions including depression, anxiety disorders and adjustment disorders. For more information visit www.psychology.org.au. Feel free to contact our receptionists who may be able to assist you further.

Clients are also welcome to self-refer however would not be eligible for the Medicare rebate in this case. Some Private Health Insurers also offer rebates on psychological services. Rebates vary depending on your level of cover. Contact your fund to determine if you are eligible and what rebates may apply.

Sessions last for 50 minutes. The initial session is used to gain a full understanding about your situation, and which approaches may be best to assist you. It is important to us that you feel comfortable, and that your session will be a positive and valuable experience for you. Some problems respond well to just a few sessions, while others are more chronic, and require treatment over a longer period.

The session fee is $120.00 per session, and most of this fee is covered by Medicare for GP referred clients (rebate of approximately $80.20) leaving an out of pocket cost of $39.80. Payment is due on the day of consultation, and the rebate can be claimed back from any Medicare office or through our Mediclear facility. Payment can be made by cash, credit card or EFTPOS.

Cancellation Policy

Please note that Anita Trendle Psychology has an appointment cancellation policy. A minimum of 24 hours notice is required if you wish to cancel your appointment. A cancellation fee may apply if an appointment is cancelled with less than 24 hours notice, or you fail to attend your booked appointment. This fee is not reimbursed by Medicare. The cancellation policy has been implemented to ensure minimal waiting times are experienced by clients on a waiting list who may require urgent counselling.
